It was a quiet day for the Kings Head Cup which is an annual race between Tollesbury Cruising Club and ourselves. Traditionally its a race round Osea Island but because the it wasn’t a very high tide we set a course just up to the Marconi Port Hand Buoy.
Eight boats started and it was very much a drift across the line and progress was made with the help of the tide as much as the wind. The wind didn’t pick up as we’d hoped and the course was shortened to Thurslett Spit Buoy. Most boats managed to round the buoy before the tide turned and then it was a gentle beat (coast?) back to Mersea No 14.
After the the race some of us retired to Bradwell for the night where we were joined by several other cruisers from both clubs. As we’ve always said .”..if you don’t fancy the racing you’re very welcome to join us afterwards…”
The results of the race are.
1 Rhumba
2 Contessa
3 Ula
4 Scallywag
5 Sea Minx
