Dinghy racing and cruising are well established at TSC, with a full and varied programme. Racing takes place on Sundays, with times subject to tides. Some racing also occurs on Bank Holidays.
The principal racing area is Tollesbury Fleet, which has dimensions of about 2.5 Kms by 1Km. Some racing also occurs into the River Blackwater. Racing is run from a committee boat located in the fleet. All racing is run by club members, sailors take recue boat or race officer duty from an annual rota. The racing season is from the beginning of April to the end of October.
Tollesbury Fleet offers sheltered waters, making it ideal for beginners, whilst it’s tidal nature makes it challenging for the more experienced. It’s relatively compact dimensions make it best suited to slow to medium handicap dinghies, currently the most popular classes being the GP14 and the Laser. Open Meetings for both these classes are a feature of our calendar. See our classes page for more information. Toppers and Optimists also feature amongst the junior sailors.
Racing is currently run on PY handicaps, with a personal handicap scheme to encourage the less experienced.
Popular dinghy cruising venues include Bradwell-on-Sea, both West and East Mersea and other clubs along the River Blackwater.
Adult training schemes are regularly run from the club, using RYA qualified instructors. The club owns 3 training boats for this purpose.
Owning a boat is not a prerequisite for membership, we are particularly keen to welcome those who would like to crew in a double-handed dinghy.
